UNC Charlotte Students Protest The End Of D.E.I. On Campus
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What seems to be an inevitable decision to get rid of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program at UNC Charlotte isn’t sitting well with students.
Members of the Black Student Union protested on campus Thursday calling on the university’s Board of Trustees to keep the D.E.I. program.
UNC Charlotte’s website shows four D.E.I. courses are being offered for next school year.
The VP of the Black Student Union tells WCCB that D.E.I. also helped establish programs for the university and losing it would be devastating.
“A lot of students who started the Safe program through UNC Charlotte, worked through IEE and they had a connection, they had that support and they felt supported by the campus and the school,” said Carissa Bermudez.
The final vote on the program is expected next month.
WCCB reached out to UNC Charlotte for comment. We have not heard back.
