Police: Four-Year-Old Child Injured In Accidental Shooting

CMPD detectives have said they charged Leeshawn Brooks, 32, the victim’s father, and Paris Perry, 32, with felony child abuse, firearm by felon, possession of a stolen firearm and storage of firearms to protect minors.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A child suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result from an accidental shooting from an unsecured firearm, according to a news release.

The release states that on April 28, 2024 at 8:48 pm, CMPD officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call on North Tryon Street. Upon arrival, the officers say they were notified by the hospital staff that a four-year-old child suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the hand, which was non-life threatening.

Officers say the gunshot wound, that occurred on Wheatside Drive, was the result of an unsecured firearm. The child’s father took the child to the hospital.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Charges are pending.
