WAXHAW, N.C. – A student at Marvin Ridge High School is in custody after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun onto campus on Thursday, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
A School Resource Officer and administrators were made aware around 10 a.m. of a student with a firearm on campus grounds. They found the alleged student in under five minutes and searched his person.
Officials said they found a loaded 9mm handgun during the search. He was taken into custody, and authorities are securing a custody order to charge the student with possession of a weapon on a school campus.
The sheriff’s office said the gun was not used to harm or threaten any other students or staff members.
An investigation into how the student obtained the handgun is underway.
