COWPENS, S.C. – One person is dead and five others were transported to the hospital following a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 85 on Saturday night.
It happened around 8 p.m. on I-85 north near mile marker 81, approximately four miles south of Cowpens, South Carolina.
Officials said a 2019 Ford F-650, a 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck and a 2015 Mazda 6 were all traveling north on I-85.
The Dodge and Mazda vehicles were slowing down due to traffic when the Ford hit the Mazda. Following the initial collision, the Mazda then collided with the Dodge pickup truck.
There were five occupants in the Mazda. One died at the scene, and the four others were transported to the hospital.
The Ford driver was injured and transported to the hospital, as well.
The Dodge driver and passenger were not injured in the crash.
This collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
