Woman Dead, Officer Hurt In Gastonia Shooting Involving Police
GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A police officer is injured and a woman is dead after a shooting in Gastonia on Saturday afternoon.
Around 1:20 p.m., The Gastonia Police Department responded to South King Street after receiving a call for a violent domestic dispute.
Responding officers were met by a woman who was said to have had multiple guns. Witnesses heard two officers attempting to get the woman to drop the guns.
Instead, she started shooting at the officers, hitting one of them in the leg multiple times before the officers returned fire.
Police said the two officers hit and killed the woman, ending the gunfire exchange.
The fellow officer acted quickly and transported the wounded officer to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in a patrol car.
Officials said the officer is with loved ones and is in stable condition.
The woman’s identity has not been released at this time.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
