Airbnb Cracks Down On Holiday Weekend Parties With Anti-Party Technology

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With Memorial Day weekend fast approaching, Airbnb is announcing measures aimed at reducing the risk of disruptive parties in North Carolina over summer holiday weekends as the company continues to enforce its disruptive party ban and promote responsible travel.

β€œThe overwhelming majority of guests and hosts on Airbnb are respectful neighbors and travelers, and disruptive parties are rare. Our aim is to reduce the risk even more, and we’re optimistic these efforts will have a positive impact for hosts and local communities,” Says Tara Bunch, Airbnb’s Global Head of Operations.

The anchor of this crackdown is a block on certain 1-night and 2-night reservations overΒ bothΒ Memorial Day weekend andΒ Fourth of JulyΒ weekend for entire home listings in North CarolinaΒ and throughout the United States. During these holiday weekends, Airbnb deploys technology that impacts bookings identified as potentially higher-risk, and complements otherΒ party prevention systems.

As guests book reservations on Airbnb for the Memorial Day or Fourth of July weekends, the following measures are in effect across the US, including Puerto Rico:

  • Restrictions on one-night and two-night bookings – Β Heightened restrictions on certain attempts to book entire homes where the reservation is identified as potentially higher-risk
  • Commitment to our anti-party attestation – Guests who can book local reservations will be required to attest that they understand Airbnb bans disruptive parties, and that they may be subject to suspension or removal from the platform if they break this rule.

Last year, Airbnb deployed similar initiatives for Memorial Day andΒ Fourth of July, andΒ approximately 67,500Β people across the US were deterred from booking entire home listings over those weekends as a result.Β Specifically in NorthΒ Carolina,Β approximately 1,900Β people were deterred from booking an entire home listing over the Memorial and Fourth of July weekends in 2023,Β includingΒ approximatelyΒ 650 in Charlotte.
