Suspects Operating Stolen Vehicles Arrested In Mooresville
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – With the help from the department’s automatic license plate reader (ALPR) system, Mooresville police officers were able to arrest two suspects Tuesday that were operating stolen vehicles.
The first arrest came after officers responded to River Highway near I-77 around 7 a.m. after the ALPR recorded a hit on a black Chevy Camaro allegedly stolen from Winston-Salem.
Officers located the vehicle and arrested the suspect without incident during a traffic stop. The driver, 32-year-old James Dilorenzo, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
The second incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Officers, with the help of the ALPR, responded to Fairview Road near U.S. Highway 21 in regards to a Chevy HHR reportedly stolen from Charlotte.
The driver, 46-year-old Leon Massey Jr., had five active warrants – one of which was assault with deadly weapon – from CMPD.
Mooresville officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested Massey without incident. He was charged with driving while license revoked and open container.
All active warrants against Massey were served and additional charges could be coming, officials said.
Dilorenzo and Massey were each placed in the Iredell County Detention Center without bond.
