RHODHISS, N.C. β Charges are pending after a woman was killed in a head-on collision in Burke County on Friday, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
It happened around 5 p.m. Friday on Rhodhiss Road near Brown Circle.
Authorities said a 2016 Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Rhodhiss Road while a 1997 Kia Sportage was traveling east.
The Toyota truck allegedly crossed the center line and hit the Kia vehicle head-on.
Lori Jean Ward, 42, operating the Kia, died at the scene. Officials said she was not wearing her seatbelt.
The Toyota driver, 60-year-old Paul Hugh Severt Jr., sustained minor injuries and was transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge In Morganton.
Officials said speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the crash. However, the NCSHP said charges are pending after conducting an investigation and consulting with the Burke County District Attorneyβs Office.
