WeatherWise Alert Today:
Timing: Afternoon 3-9pm
Threats: Damaging wind, localized flooding, brief tornado (near/south of I-85)
Cold front will trigger more storms this afternoon. Main concern will be for clusters of storms that may develop.
Discussion:
An upper level disturbanceΒ will push a cold front through the region today. Temperatures will warm into the upper 80s with plenty of moistureΒ streaming into the region creating instability, while decent deep level shear will lead storms to organize. We could see a few showers and storms begin in the mountainsΒ late morning into early afternoon, but severe threat increases by mid-afternoon through early evening. Damaging wind and localized flooding will be the main concerns. But, a brief tornado, especially near and south of I-85 will be possible. Drier air pools into the region behind the cold front. Temps will remain warm, but it will be dry Friday and Saturday with highs near 90. Chance for storms returns Sunday evening. Drying out and cooling down early next week with storm chances creeping back in by Wednesday.
