Man Wanted For Federal Probation Violation Arrested After Chase
MONROE, N.C. – A man, wanted for a federal probation violation, was apprehended by a K9 dog after a police chase in Monroe, according to the Monroe Police Department.
Around 11 a.m. Friday, officers located a vehicle on Dickerson Boulevard believed to be owned by 43-year-old Kent Joseph Long, who had an active warrant for a federal probation violation for possessing a weapon.
Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and said Long waited long enough for officers to identify him before he drove off.
Long led officers on a vehicle pursuit towards South Carolina. He led the police chase through a corn field on Old Pageland Marshville Road before getting out and fleeing on foot.
While he was hiding in a wooded area near the corn field, officials said he had a gun and threatened to shoot K9 Bolo that was tracking him.
After a brief standoff, K9 Bolo was able to apprehend Long.
Long sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the K9 apprehension and was treated at a local hospital before being released.
He is being processed into the Union County Detention Center. No bond has been set at this time.
