Man Charged With Felony Murder Following Shooting In Newton

NEWTON, N.C. – A Newton man has been charged with felony murder following a homicide investigation on Monday, June 10th.

According to a news release, Kelvin England, 51, of Hickory, NC was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the corner of South Brady Avenue and East A Street. After receiving a call from a bystander around 3 p.m., Newton police officers, firefighters and Catawba County EMS arrived on scene to perform life saving measures.

Despite efforts of Catawba County EMS, England succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

Law enforcement quickly secured the scene and set up a perimeter where a male subject, identified as 28-year-old Bricson Lineberger taken into custody and later charged with murder.

Lineberger was processed at the Catawba County Detention Center and will appear in court Tuesday morning in Newton District Court.
