Counties In Charlotte Region Feeling Similar Growing Pains

CHARLOTTE, NC — Whether you’re from here or you moved here, we are all dealing with the growing pains of living in one of the fastest growing parts of the country.

Like it or not, the secret is out about Charlotte. More than 100 out of towners move to the area each day.

New Yorkers, Californians, and Midwesterners are ditching the high housing prices and cold weather to start a new life at a much cheaper cost than what they’re use to. Great for them, tough luck for some who grew up in Charlotte, being priced out of their hometown.

The mad rush to Charlotte and the subsequent mass exodus of long-time residents has caused a trickle down effect for county’s around Mecklenburg.

The 2023 Census numbers show impressive growth in nearly every county around Charlotte. Lancaster County is leading the way with nearly 13% growth in the last 3 years. Their growing pains mirror many counties like Lincoln, Union, and Iredell.

The root cause of overcrowded schools and roads begin with the over saturation of cookie cutter houses and apartments being built as fast as developers can get approval.

It’s that out of control growth that has many who grew up here worried the small town charm they know and love will be lost for the next franchise restaurant.
