Fundraiser For Gastonia Mother Killed While Sleeping

GASTONIA, N.C. –  The Gastonia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Monday night on Morgan Street.

Investigators say 39-year-old Latasha Cureton was killed in the shooting that happened just before midnight on June 10th.

At least 40 bullet holes riddle the front of the home. Cureton’s sister tells WCCB’s Emma Mondo that their mother was inside with eight grandchildren when the shooting happened, four of them were Latasha’s kids.

“She was in the room watchin’ movies with the grandkids, and she said she heard a loud noise or whatever,” said Cureton’s sister.

Luckily, none of the children or the grandmother were shot.

Cureton’s sister tells Mondo that Latasha’s own son found her in the front bedroom.

“They said she screamed out ‘I’m hit’,” she said. “Then, her son saw her bleeding from her mouth.”

A GoFundMe has been created to help the Cureton’s family during this time.

“She was deeply cherished and brought so much love and light into our lives. She will be missed by all who knew her,” the fundraiser reads.
