Judge Denies Bond For Man Accused Of Stabbing 3 People
CHARLOTTE, NC — Three victims in three Charlotte zip codes in less than 24 hours. Josiah Maitland is accused of stabbing all three of them. On Friday, the judge denied Maitland bond.
“I kind of sensed like somebody was behind me and then I started feeling pounding on my back,” said one of Maitland’s accusers whos asked to have her identity hidden.
That pounding was a knife going through her back several times. She tells WCCB’s Gary Brode that she was walking to her car after work on Randolph Rd when CMPD says Maitland attacked her.
The victim said her scream was enough to scare him off. Not before severely damaging an artery in her hand that will need surgery to fix.
CMPD said she would be the first of Maitland’s three victims within 24 hours. Jose Tejada would be the next.
“I was standing on my motorcycle and I saw him make a move, but I couldn’t do anything because he immediately attacked me from behind,” Tejada explained.
The 66-year-old Tejada said he was waiting at the intersection on Old Mount Holly Road when Maitland stabbed him multiple times in the neck and shoulder.
“I was afraid for my life and for my family and I asked God to help me,” Tejada said.
Tejada believes Maitland may have been trying to steal his scooter. He says several people jumped in during that attack to scare Maitland off and then help with his wounds.
Two hours later, Maitland is accused of stabbing another woman on Freedom drive. That victim told CMPD she was stabbed in the neck and hand while riding the bus before Maitland took off with her purse.
We did some digging and found out the 19-year-old Maitland has a history of violence. In February, he was arrested for assault and battery. In March, he was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle.
Maitland’s next court appearance is set for July 2nd.
