South Carolina Man Sentenced To 13 Years For Armed Robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A York County man was sentenced to 13 years in prison after robbing three fast food businesses in Charlotte in June of 2022, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Daquan Hampton, 27, of Clover, robbed a Waffle House, a Domino’s Pizza and a Papa John’s with a co-conspirator. The two men robbed each business with masks on and guns drawn immediately.

Around 11:20 p.m. on June 8th, 2022, Hampton and his accomplice approached a Waffle House employee in the parking lot. The two men forced the employee inside the restaurant and ordered him to open the safe. When he told them that he needed a key, Hampton pistol-whipped him in the head.

The men stole the victim’s fanny pack before leaving the Waffle House through the back door.

Two days later, the same two men stole cash from a Domino’s Pizza. Hampton and his accomplice held two employees at gunpoint while one of them attempted to open the safe.

Hampton pistol-whipped one employee before firing three shots at the safe, causing shrapnel to hit one of the employees in the hand, officials said. The two men later stole $125 from the business and another $100 from one of the employees before leaving.

Approximately 18 hours later, Hampton and his accomplice robbed a Papa John’s Pizza restaurant. One of the suspects held the employees at gunpoint while the other gained access to the cash registers and safe.

An employee couldn’t open one of the cash registers and was subsequently pistol-whipped, causing a laceration to his head, officials said.

The two men left through the back door with $880.

Hampton was arrested on June 14th, 2022 after he attempted to discard a firearm during a traffic stop, court records said. Officers found two loaded firearms, marijuana and $1,417 in his vehicle.

In August of 2023, Hampton pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, Hobbs Act robbery and aiding and abetting, and possession and discharging of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Following his prison sentence, Hampton will have three years of supervised release.
