DENVER, N.C. – The Denver Fire Department rescued 13 puppies that were abandoned Thursday morning.
The puppies were left in crates behind a church near a fire station. When the fire department arrived, some had already started busting out of the crates.
The firefighters picked the puppies up and took care of them until the Lincoln County Animal Services took them.
Lincoln County Animal Services says they think the puppies are from two different litters: Heeler Mixes and the larger puppies Lab/Hound Mix. The puppies have since been vaccinated, dewormed and started on preventatives.
Before adoption, the puppies are kept on a four-day stray hold, not including Sundays. Four puppies have already been fostered out.
