Charlotte Man Sentenced For Illegally Possessing Firearm As Convicted Felon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte man was sentenced to eight years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Bryan Ledbetter, 48, received the 96-month sentence based on an incident from September of 2022 when he entered a female’s home through a bedroom window. Ledbetter and the victim knew each other.

When she heard Ledbetter, she ran to her neighbor’s home. Ledbetter caught up to her on the neighbor’s porch and grabbed her by the neck and squeezed, court records said.

Officials said Ledbetter dragged the victim by the neck to the neighbor’s yard, pulled out a firearm and fired it into the air. He then dragged her to some nearby bushes and put the gun’s muzzle to her head and under her neck.

When police arrived, they ordered Ledbetter to drop the gun. After initially refusing, he eventually dropped the gun and was arrested at the scene.

Ledbetter pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on March 14th, 2023. He was prohibited from owning a firearm after previous state convictions for assaulting a female and assault by strangulation.
