Deputies Investigating Possible Drowning At Burke County Park

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. – Deputies are investigating a possible drowning incident at Lake James State Park from Friday night, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 8:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office responded to the park after visitors found someone floating in the water, according to a news release. They found the victim not breathing and called 911.

Multiple agencies responded, and the victim, identified as 76-year-old Presley Junior Jaynes, of Morganton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details were released.

The incident is still under investigation.
