CMPD Releases 90+ Videos Of Officer Shooting Suspect

CHARLOTTE, N.C – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have released more than 90 videos connected to an officer-involved shooting in west Charlotte. It happened back in February. Police were already surveilling the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road in an effort to reduce ongoing crime. One of the surveillance cameras captured a man pull a handgun out of his waistband in a business parking lot. Officers were sent to the scene, where video shows them try to talk with the man seen with the gun. The man runs, and pulls the gun from his waistband. The officer on scene fires one shot, and the man falls to the ground.

CMPD provided a pre-recorded interview to news media, they did not take questions from reporters. Sgt. Steve Winterhalter says, “The individual’s right arm and hand begins to turn toward the officers at which point Officer Atwood fires one round, striking and he immediately falls to the ground.”

The suspect, 33-year-old Timothy Moore, was taken to the hospital, and treated. He’s charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon. He’s since been released from jail. The SBI is investigating the shooting.
