Mecklenburg County Bar Announces New Voluntary Bar Association And 26th Judicial District Bar Following Bifurcation

Charlotte, North Carolina – The Mecklenburg County legal community is pleased to announce the establishment of the new voluntary Mecklenburg Bar Association (MBA) and the mandatory 26th Judicial District Bar (26th JD Bar). This development is a result of the bifurcation of the former mandatory Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB), effective as of July 1, 2024.

The creation of these two distinct entities aims to better serve the needs and interests of Legal professionals and the public in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. This strategic decision comes after extensive consultation with members, stakeholders, and the broader legal community. Bifurcation was approved by MCB members at the Annual Meeting in May 2022.

The MBA and 26th JD Bar each have their own governance structures and leadership teams.
The newly formed MBA operates as a voluntary association dedicated to supporting and advancing the legal profession in Mecklenburg County. With a focus on providing a wide range of professional development opportunities, networking events, and pro bono initiatives, the MBA is committed to enhancing the practice of law and fostering a strong sense of collegiality among its members. The new association offers several membership levels for attorneys and welcomes the membership of law students, legal professionals and affiliates.
