Travelers Returning Home From Holiday Trips Hit Delays At Charlotte Douglas International Airport
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Douglas International Airport is packed with holiday travelers trying to get home. Unfortunately some are stuck waiting even longer as bad weather and crowds have caused delays.
The Fourth of July holiday is behind us but millions are still returning from holiday vacations and family visits. Airport staff say they’ve seen a 15-percent rise in travelers from last year around this time. Many of those travelers are now dealing with delays.
Some waiting in the airport arrival section have complained about their plane being delayed or de-boarded due to stormy weather. Others, whose last stop is in charlotte, say they were stuck waiting to pick up their checked luggage for longer than an hour.
July 8th is being considered the last day of holiday travel. The airport estimates its seen more than 1.18 million fliers since July 2nd, with more expected to pass through. Airport works anticipate the terminal will be even more crowded Sunday. Staff recommended anyone catching a flight out of Charlotte, arrive to your terminal at least two hours before boarding and be patient if picking up or dropping off.
