CFD: Lightning Strike Causes House Fire In North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A lightning strike caused $82,000 in damage at a home in north Charlotte overnight, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the home on Ribbonwalk Trial near Gibbon Road just after midnight.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, according to CFD. It took crews 19 minutes to contain the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Charlotte Fire investigators found the fire started in a small loft over the garage. It then spread to the main attic area, according to CFD.
The Red Cross is assisting six residents, three adults and three children, who were displaced by the fire.
The home did have functioning smoke detectors.
