Cornelius PD Confirms Diana Cojocari “Appears” To Have Left America

CORNELIUS, NC — According to the Cornelius Police Department, it appears Diana Cojocari, the mother of Madalina Cojocari, has left the country.

An image, believed to be a screenshot of a Facebook post from Diana Cojocari, is being shared on social media. It shows Diana taking a picture of herself and a woman behind her, believed to be her mother, Rodica, on a plane. The caption reads “on the way from New York JFK to Frankfurt then Bucharest…. after 9 years of absence from the country…”

That image caught the attention of the Cornelius Police Department who tells WCCB Charlotte they are aware of the post. However, that they cannot confirm if Diana is in Moldova.

A reporter in Romania tells us Diana is not in Moldova, she’s in Romania.

We went to Madalina’s home to try to get answers. No one answered the door.

Neighbors tell WCCB News At 10 anchor Gary Brode that Diana spends most of her day sitting on the porch of her former home. There are usually boxes and other items with her. The porch is now clear of her belongings.

One of the neighbors says he saw Diana put suitcases in a car last Tuesday afternoon. She was with two people. He said he hasn’t seen her since.

In June, Cornelius PD named Diana a suspect in Madalina’s disappearance.

In May, Diana pleaded guilty for not reporting Madalina missing.

Cornelius Police took her passport and they say they never gave it back. A member of the police department says it’s possible Diana applied for an emergency passport, allowing her to leave the country.

Romania does have have an extradition treaty with America. However, Moldova does not.

Cornelius says the last time they talked to Diana was days after she got out of jail and that there was nothing they could have done to make her stay.
