Big Lots plans to close around three dozen locations in 2024, according to a company filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
According to the document, the discount retail chain expects to close 35 to 40 locations while only adding three new stores.
Net sales for the company decreased $114.5 million or 10.2% in the first quarter compared to 2023, the report said.
Which Big Lots locations will be closing is unclear at this time. The company has around 1,400 stores nationwide.
There are three Big Lots in Mecklenburg County, two in Cabarrus, and one each in Gaston and Union counties.
Big Lots isn’t the only retail chain closing stores. Walgreens announced in June that it could close hundreds of stores over the next few years.
