Woman Dies At Hospital After Setting Her House On Fire, Shooting Herself

HICKORY, N.C. – A Hickory woman died at the hospital on Friday after setting her house on fire and then shooting herself, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 2 p.m. Friday, authorities were called to North Shore Drive in Hickory about a victim with a gunshot wound and a house on fire.

Nearby witnesses saw smoke and pulled the victim, Teresa Ann Bowman, out of the home on fire, officials said.

Bowman was transported to Frye Medical Center where she later died.

The cause of the fire was determined to be arson based on the materials found inside the residence, according to the fire marshal’s investigation. The sheriff’s office said that Bowman first set her house on fire before shooting herself.

Multiple fire departments responded to the home and successfully put the fire out.
