Man Charged In Deadly Huntersville Traffic Collision

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Huntersville Police Department has charged 31-year-old Michael Benjamin for allegedly fleeing on foot after being involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash, according to a news release.

The release states that on July 16 at 8 pm, a three-vehicle traffic collision on Statesville Road occurred that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman who was driving one vehicle and life-threatening injuries for another driver.

Police confirm that Benjamin fled on foot from the collision after a Huntersville Police K-9 Unit found him.

Benjamin is being charged with:

  • Felony death by vehicle
  • Felony hit and run involving serious injury and/or death
  • Driving while impaired
  • Resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer

Initial investigation of the collision indicates speeding and alcohol were contributing factors, but is still under investigation.
