Man That Fired Shots At Newton Officer Out Of Hospital And In Custody
NEWTON, N.C. – The man, who shot at Newton police earlier this month, is out of the hospital and in custody on eight felony charges, according to the police department.
Keon Jemez Leach, 24, was released around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and was arrested. He has been charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and four counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
The shooting happened on July 8th around 11:39 p.m. Leach was involved in a brief standoff with police before they shot him, causing him to fall to the ground, officials said. To learn more about the incident, click HERE.
Leach was airlifted and remained in the hospital until being released. He is being held at the Catawba County Detention Center with a $750,000 bond.
His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, July 18th.
