Relief From Heat, Drought Continues Into Weekend

A few storms this weekend may pack gusty winds, small hail, and localized torrential rain, but the overall severe threat remains low.

Happy Friday! Thanks to a sluggish system draped over the Carolinas, some much-needed rainy relief has arrived as we close out the workweek. While showers and storms won’t be as widespread on Saturday as they were today, significant rain chances linger into the weekend. A few storms over the next several days have the potential to bring gusty winds, small hail, and locally torrential rainfall, but the overall severe threat remains low. Temperatures will also take a hit due to increased rain and cloud coverage; today’s high in Charlotte barely cracked the 80° mark. While it won’t feel exactly feel like fall, highs will struggle to get out of the 70s and 80s through the weekend.

Afternoon temperatures should climb close to 90° to kick off the workweek as more sunshine manages to cut through the clouds, but scattered showers and storms will maintain their foothold in our area. Meaningful rain chances likely stick around through the week ahead as this stalled front refuses to budge.
