Charlotte, N.C. – As a new school year approaches, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is working hard to ensure all our families get the information and resources they need for their students to succeed at the highest level. Join us for a cultural celebration, community engagement, and family literacy activities, at the English Learner Family Academy Symposium (ELFAS) on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Elbert Edwin Waddell High School.
The purpose of ELFAS is to provide the families of Multilingual Learner students with the opportunity to learn how to support their children’s academics at home, connect with community resources available to them, and leave feeling prepared to support their children as they start a new school year!
The symposium will include cultural celebrations, such as international music and dance performances. The event’s closing ceremony will feature students from our P.A.C.E. Summer Language Academy as they march in the cultural flag parade.
“Families play a crucial role in their children’s educational journey, especially with language barriers. By attending the ELFAS, families of Multilingual Learner students will gain valuable insights and resources to better support their children’s academic success,” said Nadja Trez, Executive Director of Learning and Language Acquisition with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. “When our students see their families involved and supportive, they become more motivated and confident in their academic abilities.”
