Suspect Told Police He Thought Woman On Pineville Greenway Was His Old Friend

PINEVILLE, N.C. — New details have been released after a woman was assaulted on the Pineville Greenway.

The assault happened on July 22nd just before 2:30pm on the Greenway between Leitner Drive and Centrum Parkway.

A woman was jogging when she says a man grabbed her, slammed her to the ground, and pinned her down, according to a news release.

Police say the woman was able to kick the suspect off her and run to some nearby bicyclists for help.

Police say they arrived within seconds of receiving the 911 call and took Tyrone Duncan, of South Carolina, into custody. He has been charged with assault on a female and possession of meth.

Police Man Arrested For Assaulting Woman On Pineville Greenway

A warrant claims Duncan told police he was high on meth and thought he knew the victim so he ran up and bear hugged her. Once he realized it wasn’t his old friend, he told police he left her go and walked away.

Police found 3.4 grams of meth in his possession, according to a warrant.
