ROWAN COUNTY – A Rowan County couple has been arrested after deputies say their infant suffered cardiac arrest and Narcan had to be used to revive the child.
Authorities responded to a call on Sides Road near East Main Street just before 3pm on July 20th, where they were told an 11-month-old was unconscious and not breathing.
Upon arrival, deputies say they were quickly met with the mother of the infant identified as Jamie Robertson.
Deputies quickly administered CPR until EMS and fire personnel arrived on scene to continue lifesaving measures. The infant was administered Narcan and immediately transported to a children’s hospital for treatment.
According to a news release, Robertson told investigators she fixed the infant’s bottle using a water bottle she got out of her father’s vehicle.
Robertson also told investigators that she fell asleep with her daughter and an additional suspect identified as James Danielson before waking up to her daughter gasping for air and struggling to breathe.
Robertson says she called 911 immediately after.
Deputies say a search of the camper revealed very unsanitary conditions along with various items of drug paraphernalia, drug residue, and uncapped syringes.
Both Robertson and Danielson later admitted to investigators that they both had injected fentanyl while in bed with the infant prior to falling asleep.
Danielson and Robertson were both charged with felony neglect child abuse-serious bodily injury and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. They were both placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000.00 secured bond.
DSS was contacted and they, along with Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, are still investigating the case. The infant has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
