Three Years Later, Family Of Murdered Gastonia Man Still Seek Answers

GASTONIA – The family of John Moore remembers the man he was, just three years after he was murdered in his own home.

“Our family’s hurting,” said John’s brother Stephan Moore. “This would be a pain that we will carry for the rest of our lives.”

The Gastonia Police Department provided WCCB News with interviews with Moore’s family, hoping to generate new tips in the case.

“There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about him,” says Moore’s aunt, Laurette Avery.

Moore was shot and killed in a home invasion on July 26th of 2021. He was at his house in the 500 block of Allison Avenue. He was a well known barber at next level barber academy in Gastonia, but Moore’s family remembers him as as their funny and loving “Johnny Luke”.

“If you didn’t really know him, you thought he may have been a little rough around the edges, but with a big heart, a loving heart,” said Avery.

No arrests have been made in John Moore’s death. His loved ones are putting up a billboard up on Franklin Boulvard in the coming weeks to encourage people to come forward with tips.

“It will be there so that even if you thought you didn’t know anything, if you were to see his face, that smile, it may jog back a memory,” said Moore’s brother. “It may bring you back to that day when you were on that street and just may allow you to think of something that we may not have thought of.”
