88-Year-Old Woman Killed In Lincolnton Crash

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – An 88-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a car crash in Lincolnton, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 12:10 p.m., deputies responded to the US 321 Business near Bynum Road to investigate a fatal collision.

A 1990 Chevrolet truck attempted to turn left onto the freeway from Bynum Road, but turned in front of a southbound 2003 Honda Odyssey, and the two vehicles collided.

The Chevrolet driver, Deane Griffin, was critically injured and transported to a Gastonia hospital where she later died.

There were four occupants in the Honda vehicle, driven by 26-year-old Brianna McCleave, and all were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges are expected to be filed in the case, officials said. Neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in the crash.
