BELMONT, N.C. — The Mayor of Belmont, Richard Turner, has died after suffering a massive stroke, according to a social media post by his wife.
Marie Turner shared the news saying, “This is hardest thing I’ve ever had to write but Richard passed away yesterday and went to be with the Lord God in heaven. As many knew Richard had gall bladder / stones and severe / chronic pancreatitis surgeries recently that had complications and this week had a massive stroke followed by additional surgeries in an attempt to save his life to no avail. Our families hearts are completely broken. Richard and I met in college and have been married 33 years and have 3 children he adored. He will forever be in our hearts and minds and is also my best friend in the entire world.”
The town of Belmont released the following statement:
With deepest sympathies to his family and friends, we regret to inform you that Mayor Richard Turner passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, with his family by his side. Mayor Turner loved Belmont and enjoyed his time serving the citizens as a City Councilman, and most recently as Mayor. We ask that you continue to pray for Mayor Turner’s family and friends as we all mourn his loss.
