South Carolina Governor Declares State Of Emergency

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Governor Henry McMcaster declared a State of Emergency Sunday in preparation for heavy rainfall and potential flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.

While the effects of the tropical storm haven’t hit the Palmetto State, it allows agencies to prepare and coordinate resources ahead of time.

“Team South Carolina is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Debby and has begun preparing for its potential impact on our state,” said Governor Henry McMaster. “With a potentially significant rainfall event forecast for the next few days, it is critical that residents in potentially affected areas start making preparations and plans today—in case it is necessary to take quick action.”

McMaster also advised residents to monitor local forecasts and to begin taking proper precautions.

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane before hitting Florida. McMaster said strong winds, storm surge and heavy rainfall is expected, resulting in life-threatening flash, urban and river flooding.
