Construction Starting Soon On I-85 North Bridge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Construction starts soon on the I-85 North Bridge project. The project will construct a new two-lane street between Research Drive and J.W. Clay Boulevard in Charlotte’s northeast corridor. This new street includes two bridges: one across Doby Creek and the other spanning I-85. The project will also realign the intersection of Research Drive and David Taylor Drive to provide more efficient travel through the intersection.

Both bridges will connect University City’s residential, retail and educational centers on the east side of I-85 to University Research Park’s business and employment centers on the west side.

The project will provide an alternative route to both the W.T. Harris Boulevard and Mallard Creek Church Road interchanges with I-85.

Weather and unforseen circumstances occassionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled. When this occurs, city staff and contractors will attempt to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
