Pineville PD Releases Body Cam Video Of Deadly Shooting
PINEVILLE, NC — May 15th, 2024, a fateful afternoon in Pineville.
The Pineville Police Department got a call that day that 46-year-old Dennis Bodden shoplifted some groceries from the Food Lion on Johnston Rd.
Pineville PD declined WCCB’s request for an interview. They posted a prerecorded video, explaining the officers actions. Charlotte NAACP President, Corine Mack, believes it’s a way for police to control the narrative.
“It’s a bigger problem that they’re actually narrating the video as if we can’t see for ourselves and make a determination for ourselves what we actually see. They are now trying to convince you this is what you’re seeing,” explained Mack.
Pineville PD did release an unedited version of the officers body cam. You can see the officer approach, Bodden appears to get startled and continues to walk away.
The officer continues to follow onto Johnston Rd where Bodden nearly walks into traffic.
Bodden who was unarmed, suffered from mental health issues according to his mother.
The 46-year-old eventually does cross the road. That’s when the first struggle starts.
Pineville PD says during that scuffle, Bodden bit the officer in the arm. Video then shows Bodden getting up and walking away, towards his apartment complex. The officer continues to follow, waiting on backup.
Another scuffle starts just before a second officer shows up. Bodden then turns his attention to that officer, ripping off his radio. Seconds later, the other officer fired three shots into Bodden.
“The body worn camera shows Mr. Bodden reached for his gun during his attack. Sgt Roberts perceived this as an imminent threat,” said Pineville PD Capt. Corely Copely.
The district attorney cleared the officers of any wrongdoing.
