Update (August 12th):

Authorities have identified the victim who was killed in the Salisbury shooting as 80-year-old Charles William. The child, who was also injured in this incident, remains in the ICU in critical condition at a local hospital.

Original Story (August 10th):

SALISBURY, N.C. – One man is dead and a child is hospitalized following a shooting in Salisbury, according to a police report.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who sustained a gunshot wound. Despite officers immediate life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While officers were securing the scene, it was reported that a child had arrived at Novant Hospital with gunshot wounds that were sustained during the same incident.

The child was subsequently transferred to another hospital and remains in stable condition, though the injuries are life-threatening.

At this time, no suspects have been arrested. However, based on the evidence and information gathered during the ongoing investigation, we want to reassure the community that this was not a random incident.

There has been no direct threat identified to the broader community although we urge community members to remain vigilant.
