Man Arrested For Trespassing On Historic Site In Statesville
STATESVILLE, N.C. β A man is facing charges after allegedly trespassing on a historical site in Statesville last month, according to the Iredell County Sheriffβs Office.
It happened on Saturday, July 27th at the Fort Dobbs Historic Site in Statesville. Deputies responded to the area to investigate a possible theft and trespassing.
When deputies arrived, staff told them that they saw multiple freshly dug holes on the property.Β
Deputies reviewed security camera footage and saw a man searching the area with a metal detector and a headlamp.
Michael Hadzicki, 30, was identified as the suspect and was arrested.Β
Hadzicki admitted to officers that he trespassed onto the historic site and dug up numerous items that were buried since the fortβs establishment. He also told officers that he was on the property in 2021 and removed artifacts then, as well.Β
Hadzicki has been charged with the following
- Felony Theft or Destruction of Property of Public Libraries/Museums, 5 counts
- Misdemeanor First-Degree Trespass, 3 counts
Hadzicki is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
