Domestic Disturbance Call Leads To Officer-Involved Shooting
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.Β β The SBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Huntersville.
Investigators say this all happened after the suspect struck an officer with her car.
Huntersville police responded to a call for a domestic disturbance around 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning on Cordial Lane.
When officers found the suspect, 44-year-old Amanda Benton, inside a car, they say she accelerated and struck a Huntersville police officer.
That officer fired into Bentonβs vehicle, hitting her. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Two Huntersville officers were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries and have been released.
Investigators say there is no remaining threat to the public and that they are not looking for any other suspects.
Benton is facing a slew of charges, including the following:
- Second-Degree Kidnapping, Felony
- Assault With a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Felony
- Simple Assault, 3 counts Misdemeanor
- False Imprisonment
- Domestic Assault
- Resisting Public Officer
- Assault With Deadly Weapon
