NCEC Bright Ideas: The Shoe Project

NORWOOD, N.C. – In this Carolina InSight, we are featuring NC Electric Cooperatives and its Bright Ideas education grants. Electric cooperatives are proud to be a resource for the schools, students and teachers they serve. Through Bright Ideas education grants, educators can bring hands on learning to the classroom for K-12 students.

After teaching a literature elective course, South Stanly High School teacher Meredith Howell applied for the Bright Ideas grant to act on several creative ideas she had in store for her students.

During her elective course, she taught her students about the Holocaust and used this as an opportunity to pay homage to survivors who still reside in North Carolina with The Shoe Project.

The Bright Ideas education grant program, a shared initiative of North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives, has funded more than 14,700 projects benefiting over 3.65 million students statewide since 1994.
