CHARLOTTE, N.C. β CMPD is investigating a fatal motor crash on Pineville Matthews Road that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, according to a news release.
The release states that on August 19, police responded to a vehicle crash that involved three vehicles on the intersection Pineville Matthews Road and Providence Road.
Police say they found a 2022 Dodge Ram truck with heavy damage on the driver’s side, a 2016 GMC Yukon with heavy damage on the front-end and a 2018 Volkswagen with minor damage on the bumper.
Officers also say they found a pedestrian in the roadway near the Ram truck and transported him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was identified as 41-year-old Eric Macken and succumbed to his injuries on August 20.
The preliminary investigation claims the Yukon was turning onto Providence Road and the driver of the Ram failed to stop at a red light, resulting in a collision with the GMC.
The Ram, driven by 44-year-old Scott Austin, spun due to the collision and struck Macken in the crosswalk as well as the Volkswagen.
A warrant was issued for misdemeanor death by vehicle and on August 29, Austin turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say speed nor impairment were factors in the crash.
