Rain Chances Finally Ramp Up
An incoming storm system this holiday weekend will flush out the heat and humidity in time for the first week of September.
Many around the WCCB Charlotte viewing area saw their hottest temperatures of the month on Wednesday, and the heat may crank up another notch higher today. Highs will reach into the mid-to-upper 90s this Thursday afternoon as plentiful sunshine bakes the Carolinas once again. Miserable humidity levels will allow for heat indices well into the triple digits for a second-straight day, so take it easy when outside. Appreciable rain chances arrive this afternoon for the first time in 10 days, but most will remain dry outside of pop-up showers and storms on this Friday Eve. Scattered showers and storms will finally break the rain-free steak for many on the final day of the workweek as a rainmaking system skirts by to the north. Highs will end up closer to 90° this weekend thanks to increasing cloud and storm coverage.
A second rainmaking system slams into the Carolinas by the end of the holiday weekend, bringing another round of scattered storms on Sunday and Monday. You’ll start to notice another sharp cooldown by your Labor Day afternoon as winds shift into a more northerly direction. September’s first week is looking much cooler with highs mainly in the 60s and 70s across the board as a winter-wedge-like setup takes hold across the Carolinas.
