Heat & Storms Linger Into Labor Day Weekend
A powerful cold front slices through the Carolinas by our Labor Day Monday, bringing much cooler air for September's first week.
Happy Friday! Yesterday’s high of 99° easily made it the hottest day we’ve seen so far this month – we should be a bit cooler as we close out August. Yesterday also allowed Cjharlotte’s rain-free streak to reach 10-straight days, but that run is in serious jeopardy this Labor Day weekend. Expect highs in the mid-90s this Friday afternoon as pop-up isolated storms get rolling later in the day. You can count on more of the same as we roll into the first half of the holiday weekend, although scattered storm and cloud coverage may make it hard for the Queen City to warm much above 90°. We’ll need to stay weather-wise for a sharp cold front that slices through the Carolinas late Sunday into Labor Day Monday, as it could bring a few strong storms along with it.
Some lingering moisture behind the front could kick up a few showers and storms for our Labor Day holiday, but most spots should remain dry. Models are pointing toward a wedge setup for much of next week, meaning cloudy skies and below-average temperatures dominate the start of September. Highs may struggle to get out of the 60s and 70s between Tuesday and Friday.
