Meteor Illuminates The Night Sky Above North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A meteor was caught on home security cameras around 1:15 am Friday morning as it streaked across the sky above North Carolina. Video shared with WCCB from Amanda Dunham in Mooresville shows the meteor pulsating with light, illuminating the night sky before going behind trees on the horizon. Another video from Timothy Ballisty in Asheville shows the meteor traveling across the treeline growing brighter as it passes. As the meteor begins to fade you can just about see the fiery trails it leaves behind. What is believed to be a sonic boom from the meteor can also be heard towards the end of the clip.

The American Meteor Society received 151 reports about a “fireball event” seen over 11 states from Ohio down to Georgia – including North and South Carolina.
