CMPD Arrests Suspect In Fatal Hit And Run On Sugar Creek Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is investigating a fatal hit and run crash that involved a pedestrian on West Sugar Creek Road, according to a news release.

The release states that on the evening of September 1, police responded to a call regarding a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian on the 1100 block of West Sugar Creek Road.

Upon arrival, police say they found an unresponsive man laying in the median, who was transported to a hospital. The man was identified as 34-year-old Antonio Harris and succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation states that Harris was standing in the median and was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that was driving in the wrong direction. The driver did not remain at the scene of the crash.

Police identified the driver of the Silverado as 31-year-old Leonardo Perez, who was taken into custody and charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run causing death, no operator’s license and reckless driving.
