SALISBURY, N.C. – 68-year-old Michael Chapman was arrested and charged for felony taking indecent liberties with a student after an incident in May, 2024, according to a news release.
The release states that the Faith Academy Charter School administration believed a student had been sexually assault by a substitute teacher on May 20 and submitted a report to the school resource officer.
The substitute teacher was identified as Chapman and the investigation states Chapman touched the 14-year-old victim in a sexual manner on the same day the report was filed.
Chapman was arrested on August 30 due to the investigation being presented to the Rowan County District Attorney’s Office in accordance with a statute that requires approval from the office before a criminal charge can be made against a school employee.
