CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg County Rep. Kelly Alexander passed away Friday, according to a statement from his family.
Alexander was born and raised in Charlotte and a graduate of West Charlotte High School. He was a civil rights leader and followed his father’s footsteps as NC NAACP president, according to Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles.

Alexander is also known for owning and operating Alexander Funeral Homes, Inc.
