Neighbors Concerned Standing Water In Complex Could Cause Mosquito Borne Illnesses
CHARLOTTE, N.C — Itβs a sight no resident wants to see.Β
“It’s still there and it’s filling up more and more and now it’s at the top with mosquitos and flies and water that’s just standing there and accumulating for months,β Tina Quizon.Β
Tina Quizzon says a trash can filled with standing water and debris has become an eyesore and a nuisance at a vacant unit across from her home near the Wesley Village apartments.Β
Β Its drawn the attention and the frustration of Quizon and her neighbors who said the property manager has been unresponsive in dealing with the issue.Β
“The neglect here is really upsetting because we all pay rent. It makes it look bad. You know nobody wants a trashy apartment area so when people come to visit you al the see is a mess.”
Neighbors say the standing water is attracting mosquitos who could carry the West Nile virus.
Mecklenburg County Health officials confirmed at least one confirmed case and two suspected cases of the West Nile Virus in the Charlotte area.Β
We spoke to a neighbor who didn’t want to be on camera, but said the standing water could be a health and safety issue.Β
βThat is a danger to me, not only to others. I have a grandbaby that comes and goes. I don’t want her catching the West Nile virus. It’s just becoming a problem.βΒ
We brought our concerns to theΒ property manager who said she was unaware of the issue.Β
However, Quizon said she’s tried multiple times to reach the property manager and has not received a response.Β Β
Neighbors said they just want the issue to be addressed and for their concerns to be taken seriously.Β
“We just want to be heard. that’s all.”Β
