Victim Of Gastonia Hit-And-Run Remembers Crash: “It Still Rattles My Nerves”

GASTONIA, NC — The Gastonia Police Department is still searching for the driver of a hit-and-run that sent another driver and passenger into a home last week.

Michael Barrett was driving the black SUV that went crashing into an unoccupied home at the corner of North New Hope Road and Court Drive.

“I’m glad that there was nobody in the house because I was going right into their living room,” Barrett said.

This video of the crash was released by the Gastonia Police Department. It shows the driver of a white van making a sharp left turn as Barrett is heading towards him. That van then stops in the road

“How can you prepare for that? He came out of a line of traffic, going straight as I was going straight and you just turned right. Just like that,” explained Barrett of the crash.

To make matters worse, Barrett tells WCCB he was driving a 39-week pregnant woman when this happened. He says the woman can barely walk from her injuries. Barrett, who said he suffered a dislocated shoulder has a message for the driver who took off.

“You need to turn yourself in, because sooner or later, the net is widening and you will be caught,” Barrett said.
